La Vista Correctional Facility Overview
La Vista Correctional Facility is operated by the Colorado Department of Corrections. CDOC's Pueblo campus page identifies the facility address as 1401 W. 17th Street, Pueblo, CO, with mailing through PO Box 3, Pueblo, CO. The switchboard is 719-544-4800, the visiting phone is 719-583-5914, and the warden listed in the research material is Shane Stucker.
La Vista opened in July 2006 as a multi-custody Level III facility for female inmates. CDOC describes custody levels ranging from minimum to close custody. The facility includes general-population beds in the Intake Diagnostic Orientation unit and a classification review unit. Housing assignments connect people to services such as Therapeutic Community, re-entry services, and an incentive unit.
The CDOC La Vista facility page gives the official facility description, contact block, and visiting schedule.
Use the facility page for La Vista-specific visiting rules and use the statewide locator for inmate search.
La Vista Correctional Facility Capacity and Population
Current population and capacity are routed by CDOC through its statistics materials. The Pueblo research file cites a 2025 audit table listing La Vista with design capacity of 585, operational capacity of 570, and population of 492 as of March 31, 2025. Earlier facility notes also say July 2020 legislation reduced bed capacity.
How to Look Up an Inmate at La Vista Correctional Facility
Search La Vista inmates through the CDOC Offender Search, not the Pueblo County inmate query. The county roster covers Pueblo County Detention Center custody only. After felony sentencing and transfer into state custody, the state locator is the appropriate search channel.
- Open the CDOC Offender Search.
- Search by DOC number when known, or enter a last name, first name, and gender selection.
- Complete the CAPTCHA if the locator requires it.
- Review the result and confirm the person is assigned to La Vista Correctional Facility before planning visits, mail, or deposits.
The CDOC offender search form is the official statewide locator for sentenced Colorado prison custody.
The Pueblo County jail roster should not be used for La Vista because La Vista is a state prison, not a county detention facility.
La Vista Correctional Facility Address and Contact
The main switchboard routes general facility calls. Visiting questions have a separate phone number and an email process for scheduling. Keep the street address and mailing address separate because visiting and appeal instructions use PO Box 3.

Reception and Classification at La Vista Correctional Facility
La Vista is a state prison facility, so its custody process is not the same as street-arrest booking at the Pueblo County Detention Center. A person generally appears in CDOC systems after sentencing and transfer to state custody. La Vista includes Intake Diagnostic Orientation and classification review functions for its population. Those units are used to determine custody, placement, program assignment, and movement within the Colorado prison system.
That distinction is important for Pueblo County searches. The sheriff roster can help during local arrest custody, but a La Vista assignment belongs to the state prison system. If a name disappears from the county roster after sentencing, search CDOC before assuming release. CDOC's own disclaimer says the database may contain inaccurate information and users should contact the department to confirm details.
About La Vista Correctional Facility
La Vista's role in Pueblo County is specific: it is a CDOC Level III multi-custody female facility physically located in Pueblo, not a Pueblo County Sheriff's Office jail branch. The facility houses sentenced female DOC inmates and includes units or services connected to intake diagnostics, classification review, therapeutic community programming, re-entry, and incentives.
Because La Vista is part of the state prison system, custody information, visiting approval, phone lists, and deposits follow CDOC rules. Colorado VINE can also be used for custody-change notifications, including release, transfer, escape, or death notices by phone, email, text, or TTY.
Colorado VINE registration is available online or by phone at 888-263-8463. The research describes VINE notifications as free, anonymous, and available 24/7/365. Phone and text registration use a 4-digit PIN, and VINE retries every half hour for up to 48 hours if a notification is not answered and confirmed.
Note: Confirm CDOC custody, visitor approval, and the current visiting appointment before traveling to La Vista.
